AION 2 Hidden Cube Locations, Keys & RewardsHow to find cubes and how respawns work

Hidden Cubes are treasure chests hidden in the open world of AION 2. Open one with a key and you always get Soul Crystals, Silentium and more. This page covers where they spawn, how to get keys and what is inside.

What are Hidden Cubes in AION 2?

Some players also report gold cubes that open without a key but give fewer rewards.

AION 2 Hidden Cube locations

Each map has a large pool of possible spawn spots, and a cube appears at a random spot from that pool. Rather than checking one exact place, sweep the areas with the most spots.

MapSpawn spotsAreas with the most spots
Verteron (Elyos)1,440Aullaeu Village (115), Verteron Fortress Ruins (93), Ellun River Midstream (92)
Altgard (Asmodian)1,371Dredgion Crash Site (122), Purifying Forest (117), Basfelt Ruins (85)

Spot counts come from guide sites that read the game client data (number of spots in brackets). The game data also lists about 450 spots each in Eltnen and Morheim, but those maps are not open on the Global servers yet. For individual spots, community cube maps are a good reference. In Verteron, the cliffs west of Ellun River Midstream, past Pamos Farm, are a popular route, and many of those spots are underwater.

How to find Hidden Cubes

  1. Listen: cubes make a distinct sound nearby, and you will often hear one before you see it. Stop, turn the camera and follow the sound (see the sound settings below).
  2. Check places nobody walks: cliff ledges, rocky hollows, ruins, stone bridges, mushroom tops and floating islets. Flying low along cliff faces works well.
  3. Look underwater: Verteron has many underwater spots.
  4. Go when it is quiet: it is first come, first served, so weekday mornings, late night and right after maintenance are the best times. Players report about one cube an hour on a busy server, but 10 or more in a few quiet early-morning hours.
  5. Search the enemy faction's map: while a rift is open you can cross over and hunt cubes there too.

Best sound settings for finding cubes

Cubes give off a soft chime when you are close. It sounds a lot like a Divine Trace, so learn to tell the two apart. Turn other sounds down so the chime is not drowned out:

SettingSuggested
Music (BGM)Off, or about 15%
Sound effects (master)High, about 70%
Your own wing soundOff
Your own / other playersLower, about 30%
Monsters / mountsLower, about 40%
Ambient / UILower, about 20%

Just turning off the music and your own wing sound makes a big difference. Headphones help you tell which direction the chime is coming from.

How Hidden Cube respawns work

Because cubes do not spawn on a fixed clock, this site has no cube timer. For events that do run on a schedule, see the AION 2 rift timer.

How to get Hidden Cube keys

Each cube uses one key. Carry a few before you go hunting, because you cannot open a cube you find without one.

FAQ

Where are the Hidden Cubes in AION 2?

Verteron has 1,440 possible spawn spots and Altgard has 1,371. A cube appears at a random spot from that pool, so it is not always in the same place. Cubes are not shown on the map or minimap; look on cliff ledges, ruins and underwater.

Do you need a key to open a Hidden Cube?

Yes. The glowing red cubes each use one "Key: Hidden Cube". Without one, the game says the cube cannot be opened without a key. Some players report gold cubes that open without a key but give fewer rewards.

How do you get Hidden Cube keys?

Free keys come from quests, the "Who Brought This Box?" achievement, Monolith stages, the Daeva Pass and daily attendance. You can also get them from the season shop (3,000 Oath Coins, up to 10), the Quna shop (50 Quna, 3 per day) and the A2 Mileage shop (2,000 Mileage).

How long do Hidden Cubes take to respawn?

NCSOFT has not published a timer. Cubes are shared across the server: once someone opens one, it disappears and a new one spawns later at a random candidate spot. Korean-server players report roughly 30 minutes to 3 hours.

What do Hidden Cubes give?

Every key opening gives 10 Silentium, 5 Soul Codex, 100–200 Power Shards, 1,000 Soul Crystals and 1 Seed of Detection, plus chance drops such as Lucky Aura, Soul Codex: Reset, cosmetic skins, Radiant Love Wings (1%) and Emote: Kurukuru (0.1%).
